The handy pocket-size guide is packed with useful information, tips, and recommendations, accompanied by colour photographs, charts, and maps for the first-time traveller who wants to experience the major highlights that Rhodes has to offer. This travel book surpasses other guides in that it incorporates essential information in an easy-to-carry and easy-to-read format that is attractive and useful at the same time. It provides a visitor with an invaluable introduction to Rhodes by concisely highlighting the island's 'must see' areas in a practical and user-friendly format, thus encouraging the tourist to make the most of his/her available time. All the essential information you need to get around an unfamiliar island is compacted into useful and practical 'At-a-Glance' sections at the end of each chapter. The fold-out map of Rhodes is ideal for tourists and visitors. In addition to the main map of Rhodes, which highlights scenic routes, it features 5 detailed area maps, 2 site plans and 3 town plans.

This is a small guide book that is easy to carry around. As such you can't expect too much detail and it is more or less OK as far as it goes. But for a 'fully revised' edition it is simply not good enough. Moni Thari is said to be 'deserted but for the sole remaining monk ...'. We visited to find a thriving monastery and had an interesting chat with an American monk who said that this information had not been true for over 20 years. The enclosed map fails to show a major new road from the airport to the East Coast, despite it having been there for 4 or 5 years. These are just two examples that suggest that it has simply not been adequately researched. And to suggest that Patmos is a destination for a day trip (other than by helicopter!) is simply absurd.

The book and map come in a handy wallet but the level of detail in the book disappointed me. I normally buy Lonely Planet books so perhaps I'm just too used to their format.

Ideal holiday companion. Main sights profiled.
